Airbnb Partnering Up With Thai Hotels

Good news for those looking for the best hotels in Kanchanaburi and across Thailand, as Airbnb has recently entered a partnership with the Thailand Boutique Accommodation Trade Association (TBAA), to add Thailand’s boutique hotels onto Airbnb’s global people-to-people platform, connecting these properties to the company’s international traveller network, which has seen at least 300 million guest arrivals ever since it was founded a decade ago.

The partnership was launched late September of 2018 by Airbnb Country Manager for Southeast Asia, Mike Orgill, alongside TBAA President and Advisor to the Thai Travel Agents Association, SuparerkSoorangura.

According to Orgill, Thailand is one of Airbnb’s largest markets in the Southeast Asia region, and this new partnership with the TBAA marks a significant stepping stone for Airbnb, both as a business and as a community. He explains that boutique hotels play an increasingly important role in driving Thailand’s tourism ecosystem thanks to their authentic host-led hospitality and their distinctly Thai designs.

Orgil says that Airbnb is excited to work with the TBAA to add boutique entrepreneurs onto their platform, as well as connecting them to a growing global audience who crave the experience of authentic, iconic Thai hospitality in an intimate, design-centric environment.

With Thailand as one of the world’s biggest tourism hotspots, this new cooperative will be useful for travelers looking for the best hotels in Kanchanaburi and across Thailand, offering access to at least 50 boutique hotels across 15 provinces throughout the Kingdom, which include Bangkok, Chantaburi, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Kanchaburi, Phuket, Prachuab Kiri Khan, NakhonRatchasima, Ratchaburi and Sukhothai.

The terms of the agreement have both involved parties agreeing to:

  • Conduct joint training workshops for the members of the TBAA, with the goal of arming them with knowledge of the Airbnb platform, as well as the necessary digital skills needed for them to create, manage and promote their own listings.
  • Promote Thailand’s boutique hotels on the global market.
  • Revitalize local neighbourhoods by inviting tourists to places outside of the traditional tourism hotspots.

According to the company, in 2017 alone, Airbnb’s host community in Thailand welcome approximately 1.7 million guests into their houses, which amounted to a total of Bt4 billion (US$119 million) in income for the locals.
