Good news for those looking for the best hotels in Kanchanaburi and across Thailand, as Airbnb has recently entered a partnership with the Thailand Boutique Accommodation Trade Association (TBAA), to add Thailand’s boutique hotels onto Airbnb’s global people-to-people platform, connecting these properties to the company’s international traveller network, which has seen at least 300 million guest arrivals ever since it was founded a decade ago.
The partnership was launched late September of 2018 by Airbnb Country Manager for Southeast Asia, Mike Orgill, alongside TBAA President and Advisor to the Thai Travel Agents Association, SuparerkSoorangura.
According to Orgill, Thailand is one of Airbnb’s largest markets in the Southeast Asia region, and this new partnership with the TBAA marks a significant stepping stone for Airbnb, both as a business and as a community. He explains that boutique hotels play an increasingly important role in driving Thailand’s tourism ecosystem thanks to their authentic host-led hospitality and their distinctly Thai designs.
Orgil says that Airbnb is excited to work with the TBAA to add boutique entrepreneurs onto their platform, as well as connecting them to a growing global audience who crave the experience of authentic, iconic Thai hospitality in an intimate, design-centric environment.
With Thailand as one of the world’s biggest tourism hotspots, this new cooperative will be useful for travelers looking for the best hotels in Kanchanaburi and across Thailand, offering access to at least 50 boutique hotels across 15 provinces throughout the Kingdom, which include Bangkok, Chantaburi, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Kanchaburi, Phuket, Prachuab Kiri Khan, NakhonRatchasima, Ratchaburi and Sukhothai.
The terms of the agreement have both involved parties agreeing to:
- Conduct joint training workshops for the members of the TBAA, with the goal of arming them with knowledge of the Airbnb platform, as well as the necessary digital skills needed for them to create, manage and promote their own listings.
- Promote Thailand’s boutique hotels on the global market.
- Revitalize local neighbourhoods by inviting tourists to places outside of the traditional tourism hotspots.
According to the company, in 2017 alone, Airbnb’s host community in Thailand welcome approximately 1.7 million guests into their houses, which amounted to a total of Bt4 billion (US$119 million) in income for the locals.
More than just Bangkok Japanese restaurants providing cuisine to the Kingdom, Japanese companies are also seeing increasing popularity across Thailand, as well as across the region as the urban populace up their demand for fresh food.
On the outskirts of Bangkok, Japanese logistics firm Nichirei opened a cold-storage centre utilizing their country’ insulation technology, paired with refrigerated trucks. Opened back in 2014, the facility originally handled products like chicken and juice, but has been seeing an increasing demand in foods like dairy as the local tastes shift to be more Western. The President of Nichirei reinforced that notion with a statement that says that changing diets are fuelling increasing demand for refrigerated and frozen transportation.
The facility is run via a partnership with the local conglomerate, the Siam Cement Group, which handles training for complex tasks. Notably, employees are given computational problems on a daily basis in order to develop their skills, and are moved into more demanding positions as they improve.
Siam Cement, which has another joint venture with a Japanese logistics firm, will be adding “online food delivery” to their portfolio, building up on their partnerships for a stable service, according to a director in the company’s distribution segment regarding new developments.
Malaysia and other countries are also seeing Japanese cold-chain services, but notably, there are also some gaining a foothold in Myanmar. The country, considered the region’s last frontier for businesses, saw Sojitz establishing a facility for the handling of wholesale for City Mart Holding, Myanmar’s largest retailer.
The market for goods like dairy and meat products have been seeing an increase throughout Southeast Asia. Projections expect that consumption will go up to a total of $21.1 billion by 2020 among the region’s six largest countries, which would be a marked increase of 140% from 2010.
While exotic cuisine like Bangkok Japanese restaurants are always en vogue, the daily meals have shifted from the traditional marketplaces towards convenience stores and supermarkets. Refrigerated and frozen goods are nor also easier to procure thanks to major distributors offering shipping.
On top of all of this, Southeast Asia’s rapid urbanization has also been underway, which has resulted in the increased demand for the transport of fresh produce from farming villages. Asia’s urban population went up by 30% from 2005 to 2015, and the United Nations is expecting similar growth, projecting a 21% increase by 2025.
Perhaps the whole world has heard about the unfortunate event that 12 young football players experienced recently when they got trapped inside a cave in Thailand. Siam Paragon, one of the upmarket shopping malls in the country, decided to make an exhibit to show people what really happened and also to serve as a warning for those who are planning to venture into dangerous caves. Even guests staying at a family connecting room in Sukhumvit went to see the exhibit in its full glory.
There is a tunnel that children can try to pass through while dripping water can be heard in the background. According to a 78 year old shopper who tried the tunnel, SupiraPungkanon, the tunnel would be most suitable to set an example for children to let them know it is not a good idea to go on adventures on their own.
The tunnel is made of plastic and spans 10 meters. It was painted with murky brown which is similar to the actual cave in Chaing Rai province of Thailand. The unfortunate incident that happened to the football players of the Moo Pa team along with their coach caught the attention of the international news. This is also the inspiration of the exhibit called ThamLuang Incredible Mission: The Global Agenda. The boys and their coach were trapped inside the cave for two weeks.
According to the manager of the ministry of culture, SalineeChuman, they took pride in the success of the rescue because it showed the true essence of being a Thai. The whole community united in order to be of help during the trying time. The exhibit will be shown until the 9th of September. Three days prior to the closing of the exhibit, a gratitude party will be held in order to give thanks to everyone who helped including people from more than 100 nations.
Visitors can book a family connecting room in Sukhumvit in order to witness the exhibit where they can see all the equipment used for the rescue mission. There is a mannequin proud with a dive suit, underwater robots, thermal blankets and edible gel that the bys consumed in order to survive hunger.
